GROWTH HABIT: Shrub or small tree, to 8 m tall.
FOLIAGE: Ovate to elliptic, 4-10 cm long, lustrous above, with 3-5 pairs of veins.
BARK: Scaly, dark brown.
FLOWERS: Yellow; in short-stalked ambles before the leaves. Bracts yellowish.
NATIVE HABITAT: Central and southern Europe, western Asia.
