FAMILY: Platanaceae
FOLIAGE: Deciduous, alternate, simple. Palmately lobed and veined with sheathing.
BUDS: Sessile, solitary, conical, with a single glossy scale; Winter bud at first hidden by base of petiole. Terminal bud absent in winter.
BARK: Bark exfoliated.
FLOWERS: globose, long-stalked heads. Flowers minute, bracted, on a rather fleshy receptacle.
FRUIT: Ripe head composed of many slender nutlets, each with a tuft of long, erect hairs at its base.
